SafeHull
version 7.0 (2001 Rules)
26 February
2001
The original
SafeHull 7.0x installation program has an incompatibility with
computers that have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0x installed.
Therefore, if SafeHull 7.0x is to be reinstalled from the original
CD, it is imperative that users do not install SH7.0x if Internet
Explorer 5.0x is present on their computer.
To determine
what version of Internet Explorer (IE) is present on the user's
PC,
the user should do the following:
Click on the
"Start" menu button
Click on "Programs"
and then on "Internet Explorer" to launch Microsoft Internet Explorer
Once IE is
running, click on the "Help" menu item and then click on "About
Internet Explorer"
Take note
of the number following "Version:"
If this number
begins with "5.0" (for example 5.00 or 5.01), then that system
is at risk for a SH7.0 install. If the IE version begins with
"3", "4", or "5.5" then it is safe to proceed with installation
of SafeHull 7.0x
Users
who have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0x present on their systems
MUST
install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5x PRIOR TO installing
SafeHull 7.0x

The 2001 ABS
Rules are effective 1 January 2001. The SafeHull version corresponding
with the 2001 Rules is version 7.0. The initial release of SafeHull
version 7.0 includes update patches located on a floppy diskette
that is distributed with the SafeHull version 7.0 CD. After installation
of version 7.0 from the distribution CD, users should update SafeHull
to version 7.01 by running "setup.exe" from the version
7.01 update diskette.

We are currently
working on an option to directly solve Phase B FEM models using
MSC/NASTRAN for Windows® (N4W) version 4.02. This option will
not be ready within SafeHull until about April 2000. Again this
option requires that you must already have a copy of N4W 4.02
on your PC computer. If you do not already have N4W, please see
the Notice of 9 December 1999 for purchasing information. The
option of solving the FEM models using the Gifts solver is still
available within the ABS SafeHull system.

We have included
the provision to directly solve Phase B FEM models using MSC/NASTRAN®.
The use of the NASTRAN solver will significantly reduce the time
required for the initial solving as well as the iterative nature
of re-analyzing a design. In order to take advantage of this FEM
solving option you must already have NASTRAN 70.5 available on
your computer. If you do not already have NASTRAN, please contact
your nearest ABS office and we will be happy to assist you in
purchasing a license. Alternatively you can locate the MacNeal-Schwendler
Corporation (MSC) contact nearest to you via their web site http://www.mechsolutions.com/about/locate/index.html.
The option of solving the FEM models using the Gifts solver is
still available within the ABS SafeHull system.

We have modified
SafeHull to use FEMAP® 6.02 which is an upgraded version.
For existing SafeHull FEMAP users, this requires that your FEMAP
key access code must be updated. In order to accomplish this please
contact your nearest ABS office and we will be happy to upgrade
your code. Please note that it may take a few days to update your
access code due to the registration process.
