Not only is China rapidly developing its shipbuilding capacity but it is also developing its capabilities to serve the offshore market. ABS was selected to class the first and three other floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) conversions undertaken at China’s COSCO Dalian shipyard this year.

The Song Doc Pride MV19 was converted from the panamax tanker Ocean Pride. It is the first of four tanker-based FPSO conversions to be completed by COSCO Dalian. The Song Doc Pride MV19 will be installed close to wellhead platform in the Song Doc field, Offshore Vietnam to work for Truong Son Joint Operating Company (TSJOC).

According to ABS surveyors in China, during the conversion an anchor leg spread mooring system, topsides with both process and gas compression modules, helideck and other topside utilities were installed onboard in COSCO.
