After our engineers have approved the design of a vessel to be built to ABS class, our field surveyors monitor construction at the shipyard from keel laying to delivery. The surveyors verify that the approved plans are followed using approved material and components, proper installation techniques, good workmanship practices, and with strict adherence to the Rules.
In addition, ABS surveyors witness, at the place of manufacture or fabrication, tests of materials for the hull and certain items of machinery as required by the Rules. They also survey the building, installation and testing of the structural and principal mechanical and electrical systems.
Throughout construction, ABS maintains an ongoing dialogue with both the owner and the builder to make sure the Rules are understood and followed, and to assist in resolving any differences that may arise.
