Field surveyors monitor manufacturing and construction at vendor shops and fabrication yards. The surveyors verify that an asset is constructed in accordance with the approved drawings. This means approved plans are followed using approved material and components, proper installation techniques, good workmanship practices and with adherence to the Rules. They also survey the building, installation and testing of the structural and principal mechanical and electrical systems.
Offshore facilities need to complete the requirements for class prior to starting their full operational phase. For oil production facilities this is after completion of installation and commissioning but before first oil. Appropriate regulatory bodies, the coastal State administration or authority will issue a certificate of inspection (COI) or appropriate paperwork necessary for the location.
Throughout construction, ABS maintains an ongoing dialogue with both the owner and the builder so that the Rules are understood and followed and to assist in resolving any differences that may arise.
