Veteran ABS rig surveyors played an important role in the pilot program for ABS’ Enhanced Monitoring System. They described from experience the frequency with which each type of damage occurs and the criticality of its consequences.

| Nondestructive examination (NDE) reports capture information on critical inspection areas of a rig. In the ABS pilot study on aging rigs, the analysis categorized the rigs into “zones”. Jackups were assigned seven “zones” including upper leg, lowerleg, deck attachment, and upper hull. ABS extracted all damage data and assembled an historical condition profile for each zone. |

| The Enhanced Monitoring System developed by ABS gives a clear presentation of the current and enhanced inspection criteria for each rig design. The system can be integrated into an operator’s electronic work tracking system and be useful in developing asset maintenance plans. |

| Note unique to the MCF is the construction of the columns which are tubular, like a cell Spar. This allows for more compartmentalization. It is a first for a semisubmersible. |
