Mooring JIP Makes Recommendations
ABS Consulting, an affiliate of ABS, has been managing the U.S. Gulf of Mexico
Mooring Strength Reliability (MODU JIP) joint industry program. The project nears completion and recommendations have been incorporated into the American Petroleum Institute’s API 95F Recommended Practices available for free download
Major undertakings in the JIP included a metocean study and a failure analysis of rig performance in hurricanes Rita and Katrina. A consequence modeling spreadsheet was developed in order to help predict the consequences of a mooring failure. A deterministic mooring analysis matrix was also developed.
