Among the topics addressed during the meeting were the fire control plan, rescue boat requirements, window certification and hand rail drawings for the Scorpion Offshore Courageous jackup.

The just delivered jackup, Scorpion Offshore Courageous, is the first in a series of five jackup rigs building to ABS class for Scorpion Offshore. All five rigs are being built to the LeTourneau Super 116 design. The rigs have leg lengths of 477 ft. and can drill wells down to 30,000 feet in water depths of 350 feet.

The other four Scorpion rigs being built to ABS Rules and standards are: Defender, Resolute, Vigilant and Intrepid. They will be delivered progressively throughout the rest of 2007 and 2008.

The five rigs are being constructed at Keppel AmFELS yard in Brownsville, Texas.

According to ABS Offshore Engineer Carolina Pardo, the ABS Eagle engineering management system created by ABS for plan review, drawings and comments is being used on these jackups with much success. Gabe Padilla, Vice President of Engineering, Scorpion Offshore, says he has six project engineers all using the ABS Eagle system. “The instant access to ABS comments on drawings is a big time saver and allows us to respond quickly to resolve any issues,” said Padilla during a recent visit to ABS.
