ABS continues to be at
the forefront of technical standards for gas
production at sea and transport technologies with its Approval
In Principle (AIP) of a novel concept from ABB Lummus Global
for a liquefied natural gas
and liquefied petroleum gas, floating production, storage
and offloading
unit (Niche LNG/LPG FPSO).
The equipment layout is similar
to a typical FPSO, however, the concept for this new purpose-built
FPSO allows for two separate gas processing facilities
onboard which can accommodate the extraction and transport
of heavier gases, propane and butane, as well as lighter
natural gas, methane. |

ABS opened an office in Douala,
Cameroon and
increased staff numbers in Angola to expand its
geographic coverage of the region and exceed survey delivery
expectations.
In West Africa approximately 280 offshore supply vessels,
35 drilling units and 15 FPSOs operate to ABS Class. Under
discussion are a number of new FPSO projects scheduled to
come on line in the next few years.
ABS has opened a station in Macae,
Brazil. This location, approximately 200 kilometers north
of Rio de Janeiro, is the major hub for upstream development
in Brazil.
