of mooring systems for marine and offshore applications.
VCSA chain has been specified on some of the |
most prominent Gulf of
Mexico offshore projects such as BP’s Holstein, Thunder
Horse, Atlantis and Mad Dog as well as Kerr-McGee’s
Gunnison, Constitution and Nansen/Boomvang. ABS surveyors
in Bilbao, Spain, work closely with VCSA to certify mooring
standards.
Stud link chain cables have successfully anchored
ships for more than 150 years. Offshore oil and gas exploration
applications have placed much more demanding requirements
on mooring chains in terms of reliability and fatigue properties.
Over the past twenty years, VCSA has carried
out extensive research and development of its chain designs,
manufacturing and inspection processes. VCSA innovation has
resulted in new mooring chain designs such as the studless,
extra and ultra high tensile grades, large diameter chains
and the development of its exclusive Geminis Vicinay chain
design. A variety of standard and specially-designed chain
grades are available from VCSA.
For example, VCSA studless chain design of
127 mm and 117 mm diameters (R4S+ RQ5) was specified for
Atlantia Offshore Ltd.’s Independence Hub, an ABS classed
semisubmersible facility destined for 8,000 feet of water
in the Gulf of Mexico.
