Jackups on Order to ABS Class


ccording to ABS Singapore Country Manager Thomas Tan, ABS has an unprecedented number of jackups on order to its class in Singapore. Currently 24 units are on order with more
expected. The specialized drilling rigs are being built at Kepfels Singapore, PPL Shipyard and Jurong Shipyard. In addition to longstanding ABS clients such as Ensco and Maersk Contractors, Norwegian owners such as Sinvest, Odfjell Drilling and Awilco AS are building to ABS class.

This proprietary rig design was developed by Baker Marine Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of PPL Shipyard. The jackup rig is equipped with a drilling package that will enable it to drill high pressure and high temperature wells at 30,000 feet whilst operating in 375 feet of water. It has accommodation for 120 men.
