Atlantia SeaStar monohull TLP design is the configuration
of choice for BHP Billiton’s
(BHPB) Neptune oil and gas field development in the Gulf of Mexico
some 120 miles off the coast of Louisiana. Having extensive experience
classing this particular design, ABS has been selected as the
classification society. The TLP will be classed as a X FOI.
Seven initial subsea wells will tie back to the TLP with a design
capacity to produce up to 50,000 barrels of oil and 50 million
cubic feet of gas per day.
According to ABS Neptune Project Manager
Kent Dangtran this is the first time that BHPB is acting
as the lead operator in a Gulf of Mexico floating development.
BHPB selected ABS for its regulatory experience.
ABS has also received a preliminary planning
and advice (PPA) contract for initial work related to the Shenzi
TLP, which is proposed to be located about 15 miles to the east
of Neptune.
