ABS Pacific Management and Survey staff
attend the keel laying for a Keppel Fels Mod-V, Super
B Class Jackup rig in Singapore. The rig will be classed
by ABS and receive the notations: XA1
SEDU, XCDS. The Certified Drilling System or CDS notation
indicates owners have opted for ABS’safety case
or risk-based analysis approach to certification rather
than the stand alone application of traditional prescriptive
rules.
The maximum water depth for the jackup is 350 feet
with its maximum drilling capacity at a depth of 35,000
feet. The “Deep Driller 3” is scheduled
for delivery in 2006.
This is one of the nearly 40 jackup
contracts ABS has received in the past few months.
ABS’ market
share for rig classification is around 76 percent of
the worldwide rig fleet.
