ABS Selected by Woodside for Asset Base Classification and Verification
ABS has been selected by Woodside Energy Ltd., Australia’s largest publicly traded oil and gas exploration and production company, to provide classification and verification services across the Pan-Woodside Energy Ltd. asset base for the next five years. The multi-year, multi-million dollar contract covers core operational requirements of the company’s activities off Australia and existing and future emerging projects in Australia, the U.K., the U.S., Singapore and Korea. ABS will class Chevron’s Tahiti truss spar, destined for deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Targeted for 4,200 feet of water, the Tahiti unit demonstrates the industry’s latest innovations—including the first spar with no drilling capability, no surface wellheads—and is among the first spar projects to utilize ABS’ industry-first guide for building and classing these specialized deepwater floating production units. Yoho First Complete ‘Risk and Reliability’ Classed FSO
ABS has provided ExxonMobil/International Marine Transportation (IMT) with approval for a full risk and reliability based Classification scheme for the Yoho FSO operating off the coast of Nigeria, West Africa. ABS approved a risk-based inspection or RBI plan for the hull structure and moorings which allows for greater flexibility in handling the offshore inspection regimen while minimizing tank entry through the use of an optimized inspection program. Qatar’s RasGas III Awards Five LNG Carriers to ABS
ABS will class five of the 12 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers ordered as part of Qatar’s RasGas III (Production Train 6) project. The five vessels will be built to ABS Rules at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in Korea. The vessels are part of Qatar’s mega LNG shipbuilding program in support of its RasGas project. ABS Chairs Session at Composite Conference
At the recent 4th International Conference on Composite Materials and Structures for Offshore Operations (CMOO-4) in Houston, Texas, ABS Principal Engineer Jer Fang Wu, Corporate Technology chaired a session On Composite Technology 1. ABS has been at the forefront of developing guidelines for the use of composite materials on offshore structures which is expected to facilitate industry consideration of alternatives to costly steel in the development of mooring systems and risers. Best Technical Paper at Singapore's RINA/IMAREST Conference
The ABS paper "Challenges in the Application of Risk in Classification" was named the best technical paper at a recent joint Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMAREST) Conference in Singapore.
 
CNG Workhop
CNG Workshop Reviewed Technical, Regulatory and Commercial Issues
ABS hosted a one day workshop for operators interested in the latest developments surrounding compressed natural gas (CNG) transport. ABS released this year its Guide for Vessels Intended to Carry Compressed Natural Gases in Bulk and has worked closely with CNG developers over the past few years to provide design review and ABS Approval In Principle (AIP) for various CNG concepts.
