Technology Transfer Via the Singapore Offshore Technology Center

A

BS is establishing a satellite branch of its Research and Technology group via the Singapore Offshore Technology Center (SOTC) to further support offshore developments in Southeast Asia where a tremendous amount of drilling unit activity is taking place.

This collaborative approach to address offshore technology issues is being undertaken by ABS, the Singaporean government, universities and industry. Having the most experience of all classification societies in the area of deepwater technologies, ABS seeks to work cooperatively to provide technology transfer in this area. ABS has dedicated three highly qualified engineers to work at the Center. The staff will form partnerships with universities, shipyards, design agencies and other organizations to advance offshore technology innovation.

The long term goal for the center is to become a key research center for offshore technology in the region and the world.

SOTC will begin with studies on jackup dynamic analysis, global performance of floating structures, first principle structural analysis of offshore installations to include fatigue and strength analysis, application of composite materials on offshore installations and sea load assessments for complex sea states. For more information on the SOTC, contact Ah Kuan Seah, Vice President, Southern Pacific Region, ABS Pacific at aseah@eagle.org or 65-6371-2603.
