The ABS Rule Manager is
an interactive on-line database providing a quick and easy way
to access the ABS Rules, Guides and Guidance Notes as well as
numerous IMO Regulations, Codes, etc. The ABS Rule Manager provides
a number of different ways to quickly navigate through the Rules
and Regulations including:
- Browse directly from the Bookshelf; simply
select the desired set of the ABS Rules, Guides, Guidance Notes,
IMO Regulations, etc. in the database from the on-line bookshelf.

- Conduct a Project Search; enter specific
information about your project and the system will quickly
and efficiently identify relevant requirements for you.
The requirements in selected books and documents have been “tagged” with
special attributes that allow the ABS Rule Manager search system
to identify requirements applicable to a specific type of vessel,

- Search on a Subject; select a particular
area of interest and the system will quickly locate the applicable
requirements in those books and documents that have been tagged
to support subject searches.
- Perform a Text Search; the system incorporates
a powerful and flexible text search feature to quickly locate
words or phrases in any of the databased documents.

- Use the Glossary; the Glossary provides
definitions of terms, phrases and acronyms found in the Rules,
along with links to selected related cites.
The system also provides access to reference documents and
incorporates various features to assist in navigating around
the various Rule sets.
The ABS Rule Manager is available to all ABS clients for an

information and guidance provided in the ABS Rule Manager
is believed to be accurate but may not be complete. Search
routines have been incorporated into the ABS Rule Manager
for the convenience of the users. Various books and documents
have been tagged to support the search routines but the
results may not be all-inclusive even within the database
nor may they reflect all applicable requirements. Classification
and certification are based on demonstrated compliance
with the applicable ABS Rules or statutory requirements.
ABS procedures and process instructions are intended to
assist in interpreting the Rules and statutory conventions
but in case of conflict the Rules and statutory instruments
govern. Neither individual Rules, nor statutory instruments,
nor process instructions and procedures can be interpreted
in isolation but must be reviewed in the context of other
Rules, statutory instruments, procedures and process instructions.
The "Scope and Conditions of Classification" as
contained in the entirety of Part 1 of the ABS Rules for
Building and Classing Steel Vessels, including the Limitation
of Liability provisions, are hereby incorporated by reference.
