The ABS SafeHull System is based on thorough and easy-to-apply engineering analysis techniques, leading to improved reliability and enhanced safety of ship structures, while ensuring "fitness for purpose". SafeHull Criteria has been adopted as a condition for ABS Classification and Rule Requirement as follows:

Container Carriers

• Length 130 meters and above - New contracts signed on/after 13 May 1998.
  

Floating Production Installations (FPSO, FPS, FSO)

• Length 150 meters and above - New contracts signed on/after June 2000.

• Membrane vessels with length 150 meters and above - Available as an optional class requirement.

The rule criteria is accompanied by computer programs compatible with Windows and NASTRAN - as well as many other commonly used applications.
