Strengehagen Fills New Offshore Norway Position Jon Strengehagen has been named ABS Manager of Technology and Business Development Offshore (TBD) for Norway. The rapid expansion of the offshore industry in the North, Sea has highlighted the opportunity for ABS to appoint Strengehagen to further strengthen its client support in the region.. “ABS has had a long standing presence within the Norwegian shipping and offshore sectors,” says Strengehagen. “With a growing number of new offshore units for Norwegian owners being built to ABS class, the opportunity arose for us to expand our service commitment to these owners.” The expectation that many of the new rigs may find subsequent deployment in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, ABS has published the Guide for Mobile Offshore Units Operating on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and the associated N-Notation, which specifically address the technical requirements of the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA). Conformance with the Guide criteria, in addition to the relevant ABS Rules, qualifies offshore units for the issuance of the ABS (N) notation. Receiving this notation may contribute to the evaluation of a unit by the PSA for the authority’s issuance of the Acknowledgement of Compliance, or AoC, which is mandatory for operation on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Contact Strengehagen at the ABS office in Oslo.
