"We developed models that properly represented hazards associated with the design, operation and maintenance of the different system designs and quantified these models with industry data or assumptions to generate baseline risk estimates." According to Vernon, the models created for BP’s Horn Mountain were used to compare two alternative designs for the risers, the failure probability of different riser air can designs and hard tank damage risks for different compartments.
BP's Horn Mountain field is located in Mississippi Canyon Block 127, and had first oil on 21 November 2002. Peak production is expected to be approximately 65,000 b/d of oil and 68 million cf/d of natural gas. The field is believed to hold some 150 million bbl of oil equivalent in recoverable reserves.
