ABS CONSULTING PRESENTS TWO OTC 2003 TECHNICAL PAPERS

ABS Consulting will present the following papers at OTC. Full papers will be available from the OTC website at: http://www.spe.org/otc2003/ and from the ABS Consulting website at: http://www.absconsulting.com/otc/papers.html.

MONDAY, May 5, 9:30-Noon, Room No. 604.

OTC15377: “Comparative Risk Analysis of Two FPSO Mooring Configurations.”
Authors: John Stiff, Albert Pao Ding Ku, Robert Spong, ABS Consulting; Jose Ferrari, Petrobras.

A methodology is set out for comparing the risks and reliabilities associated with two FPSO configurations offshore Brazil, one turret-moored and the other spread-moored. Both qualitative risk assessment (HAZID) and detailed quantitative assessment (structural reliability analysis) methods are used. Special attention is paid to an original method which synthesizes mooring failure probabilities contributed from all potential failing lines.

TUESDAY, May 6, 2-4:30 p.m., Room No. 604.

OTC15194: “Deepwater BOP Control Systems – A Look at Reliability Issues.” Authors: Earl Shanks, Transocean Sedco Forex; Andrew Dykes, Marc Quilici, John Pruitt, ABS Consulting.

Downtime events for subsea blow-out prevention (BOP) control systems put millions of dollars at risk. This study develops a statistical reliability approach to qualifying, purchasing and maintaining deepwater BOP control systems. The approach helps operators to determine the reliability and failure rates necessary to accomplish maintenance goals.
