FFSHORE ENGINEER magazine recognizes that
ABS' capabilities, from comprehensive |
review to detailed design evaluation, can provide innovative
solutions to offshore industry needs. The June issue features
a discussion of ABS' expertise concerning permanent polyester
mooring technology for the Gulf of Mexico.
Both Kerr-McGee and BP have received regulatory approval
to install deepwater floating systems in the Gulf of Mexico
that for the first time will be held on location using these
synthetic mooring lines. In addition to helping mitigate risk
and facilitating regulatory certifications, ABS also is providing
guidance and advice on engineering and inspection issues relating
to these designs.

The same issue features the introduction of ABS' new risk-based
assessment tools at Houston’s annual Offshore Technology
Conference. ABS has developed three new guides to assist operators
with risk-based methods intended to supplement traditional classification
requirements and provide alternatives to prescriptive rules.
