BS has recently signed contracts with BP to provide classification services and regulatory |
guidance on the deepwater Crazy Horse and Holstein oil and gas development projects in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico (GOM).
This brings to 82 the number of floating production systems worldwide on which ABS has performed classification or certification services, or is now performing them.
In the GOM, ABS has classed all 16 of the classed floating systems now operating, available or currently under construction, and certified an additional eight installations.
By terms of its master services contracts for both BP projects, ABS will provide project management of classification and regulatory issues and specifically perform the following:
- Classification of the offshore structures.
- Verification of compliance with Coast Guard regulations.
- Certified Verification Agent services related to Minerals Management Service (MMS) regulations.*
- Additional services as needed, through ABS Consulting.
"As oil and gas production moves into water depths that were hardly imaginable a few years ago," says Mike Wheatcroft, ABS Manager of BP Deepwater Projects, "ABS brings unrivalled experience in classing and certifying the floating systems that make this possible."
In addition to production systems, ABS on the exploration side has classed or certified some 75 percent of the offshore drilling units introduced worldwide since 1995.
