Engineering Services

  • Plan Review-Hull Structural Analysis. Review LNG carrier to ABS Rules and the IMO International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code). Review material selection, welding procedures, scantlings, overall strength, local strength and local stress concentrations, buckling and fatigue.
  • Plan Review- Machinery. Focuses on piping and electrical systems with review taking into account the consequences of loss of propulsion capability, loss of maneuverability, loss of electrical power, fire, explosion and others.
  • Plan Review- Cargo Containment and Cargo Handling Systems. ABS reviews and can perform its own independent tank calculations to confirm that the tanks comply with all applicable regulations and codes.
  • Cargo Handling System Design. Reviews all aspects of proposed system for compliance with ABS Rules and IGC Code. Aspects such as piping arrangement, piping system analysis, loading and unloading systems, venting and gas-freeing systems as well as procedures for cooling, loading and discharge.
  • Engineering Verification.
  • Concept Approvals.

Structural Analysis

Structural analysis of the various types of containment systems (membrane tanks, spherical tanks or independent prismatic Type B tanks), hull proportions and interaction between the containment system and the hull structure demand sophisticated technical expertise. ABS has been at the forefront of supplying industry with technology solutions for LNG transport and storage.
