Rapid Response & Damage Assessment (RRDA)

ABS provides 24 hour, 365 days per year emergency support services to both the marine and offshore industries. ABS has developed a program named Rapid Response Damage Assessment (RRDA). This is a service that supports a wide group of diverse assets. Over 800 trading vessels from the world fleet along with 12 oil and gas production units (7 Semi-Submersible types and 5 FPSOs) plus several jack- up drilling units are enrolled within this expanding program.

It is of importance to note that not all the vessels enrolled within this program are exclusively classed by ABS, indeed many of the units are classed by other major classification societies.

The RRDA service is centered within the ABS, Marine Casualty Response Center (MCRC) in the ABS Corporate Offices in Houston, Texas. The RRDA program delivers a comprehensive support service to Captains, offshore installation managers and incident command personnel by telephone, fax and email.

In preparedness for a response ABS has invested heavily in the personnel who staff the response unit and also made sure that the most advanced facilities and equipment are available. ABS utilizes Hecsalv (for ship shape structures) and SeaSafe (for other non ship shaped types semis etc). This investment is a measure of ABS’s commitment to the safety of life and property at sea; and, its recognition of the strategic role that an RRDA type of service must play.

Critical communication equipment such as several dedicated telephone lines and fax lines plus computer systems are available for sole use by the MCRC team. In order to assure availability, the MCRC equipment is protected from events such as power failure via uninterrupted power supply and all computer systems are 'twinned' thus assuring a 100% redundancy capability. This redundancy factor is extended to hard copy files and software program disks which are backed-up to alternative storage and one copy off-site.

The ABS RRDA service is well defined, tried, and tested. For more information, please mail or fax us at the addresses noted above, or e-mail.
