ABS Ship Security Program

ABS has comprehensive ship security services designed to assist shipowners and operators to meet the International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS).

  • The code goes into effect 1 July 2004
  • ABS estimates that this impacts almost 43,000 ships and mobile offshore drilling units

ABS is seeking designation as a Recognized Security Organization (RSO) from the leading flag State administrations. As an RSO, ABS will be authorized to:

  • Approve ship security plans
  • Perform security audits of ships
  • Issue the International Ship Security Certificates (ISSC)

Note: a unique Company IMO identification number is required to be posted on the vessel's ISSC. For more info on obtaining this number for your organization please visit LR Fairplay.

ABS issued the Guide for Ship Security to assist shipowners to successfully achieve compliance with the new international SOLAS and the ISPS Code regulations. A notation is available for those vessels complying with the contents of this Guide.
