Passenger Ships

Damage Stability

The 15o range of residual stability required for passenger ships constructed on or after 29 April 1990 may be reduced to a range not less than 10o on or after 1 July 1998 provided the 0.015 m-rad area under the residual curve is increased by the ratio of 15o / reduced range.

Passenger Ship Arrangements

A draft assembly resolution for the design of arrangements and the training of ship’s personnel relative to assisting elderly or disabled passengers in emergency situations was accepted. Included in the resolution, which is intended to apply to new ships, are recommendations for location of berths, areas of the ship to be provided with barrier-free access together with dimensional limits of these accesses commensurate for wheelchair access.
