The 68th Session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) met from 28 May to 6 June 1997 in London.
More than one third of the total Contracting Governments to both the SOLAS and STCW Conventions were present, thus enabling the “expanded” Committee to take action on a number of amendments to the SOLAS and STCW Conventions.

Several guidelines were also issued to facilitate compliance with the Conventions.
