Maritime Safety Committee's 70th Session
January 1999

The 70th Session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) met from 7 - 11 December 1998 in London. After introductory remarks were made by the Secretary General pertaining to several indicators showing improved casualty statistics of the merchant fleet, which average age continues to increase, the Committee adopted a number of amendments to the SOLAS Convention. Also, several guidelines were issued to facilitate compliance with the Conventions.
