Life
Saving Appliances
Testing
Requirements
The
MSC revised the recommendations on testing of life saving appliances,
consistent with the new Life Saving Appliance Code, and issued it
as resolution MSC.81(70). The recommendations for testing functionality,
performance, strength and resistance to excessive temperature, vibration,
water, oil and fire should be applied to appliances in stalled on
board on or after 1 July 1999.
Appliances installed after 1 July 1999 which previously had been
satisfactorily tested to resolution A.521(13) or A.689(17), as has
been amended, need only be subject to the additional testing recommended
by this resolution in cases where there has been a substantial change
in the performance requirements of the appliance. 8.9
Position
Indicating Lights

the view that all lifebuoy self-igniting lights, lifejacket lights
and all exterior canopy lights for lifeboats and life rafts installed
on or after 1 July 1999 should meet the position-indicating light
recommendations of resolution MSC.81(70), the MSC issued MSC/Circ.885
to that effect. Acceptance criteria for luminous intensity, vibration,
and resistance to seawater, fire, corrosion, mold, radiation and
oil is included. 8.10

Assembly
resolution A.760(18), which contains revised symbols for life saving
appliances and arrangements, has been amended by MSC.82(70). The
amendment contains a new symbol indicating the location of the evacuation
chutes. 8.11
