Reg XII/3: Implementation Schedule
The
SOLAS compliance schedule for ships subject to the retroactive requirements
of regulations 4 and 6 contains the following requirements based
on age and the date of survey:
-
bulk
carriers which are 20 years of age and over on 1 July 1999,
to comply by the date of the first intermediate survey or the
first periodical survey after 1 July 1999, whichever comes first;
-
bulk
carriers which are 15 years of age and over but less than 20
years of age on 1 July 1999, to comply by the date of the first
periodical survey after 1 July 1999, but not later than 1 July
2002;
-
bulk
carriers which are less than 15 years of age on 1 July 1999,
to comply by the date of the first periodical survey after the
date on which the ship reaches 15 years of age, but not later
than the date on which the ship reaches 17 years of age.
-
In
light of this development, IACS Council revised the IACS compliance
schedule, contained in IACS Unified
-
bulk
carriers which will be 20 years of age or more on 1 July 1998,
to comply by the due date of the first intermediate *or the
due date of the first special survey to be held after 1 July
1998, whichever comes first;
-
bulk
carriers which will be 15 years of age or more but less than
20 years of age on 1 July 1998, to comply by the due date of
the first special survey, to be held after 1 July 1998, but
not later than 1 July2002; and
-
bulk
carriers which will be less than 15 years of age on 1 July 1998,
to comply by the due date of the third special survey, or by
the date on which the ship reaches 15 years of age, whichever
comes later. (The due date of the intermediate survey may be
taken as the due date of the second annual survey or the third
annual survey)
Early
completion of an intermediate or special survey coming due after
1 July 1998 to postpone compliance is not allowed.
This
revision modifies the IACS schedule so that compliance as a condition
of classification will usually precede or coincide with the statutory
compliance date. Owners are urged to carefully review these two
schedules in order to determine the compliance dates applicable
to their individual ships.
