Reg XII/7: Survey of the Cargo Hold Structure
From
1 July 1999, single side skin bulk carriers >10 years of age
on 1 July 1999 must have carried out an enhanced special survey,
or an equivalent survey of all cargo holds, prior to carrying bulk
cargoes with a density >1.78 tons/cubic meter.
Enhanced
surveys performed by IACS Members for classification, in advance
of the statutory requirement for enhanced surveys may be accepted
as fulfilling this requirement. Since IACS Members implemented enhanced
surveys in July 1993 and accelerated surveys of cargo holds in 1996,
nearly all IACS classed bulk carriers should fulfill this requirement
prior to the 1 July 1999 deadline.
