Reg XII/9: Requirements for Non-Compliance


Administrations may allow relaxation from the application of regulations 4 and 6 for existing single side skin bulk carriers (>150m length and carrying solid bulk cargoes with a density >1.78 tons/cubic meter which have been built prior to 1 July 1999).

Bulk carriers constructed with an insufficient number of transverse watertight bulkheads to meet the damage stability requirements of regulation 4.2 may be accepted provided that:

1 . annual close-up surveys of the foremost cargo hold are carried out under the requirements of the intermediate enhanced survey,

2 . visual and audible high water bilge alarms shall be fitted in all cargo holds; and

3 . information on cargo hold flooding scenarios with evacuation preparedness, training, drills and programs shall be implemented on board.
